WKU forensic team members traveled to Murray to take part in two tournaments hosted by Murray State University the weekend of Feb. 4-5.
WKU team members gained six tournament championships over the weekend and received second place in overall team sweepstakes at the Alumni tournament. WKU also qualified a significant number of students for the national tournament in April. Other schools competing over the weekend included Bradley University, Illinois State University, Tennessee State University, North Central College and Belmont University.
Next weekend the team will split to compete in the following three locations: Norman, Okla.; Boston, Mass.; and Los Angeles, Calif.
Results from the Murray State “Ruby Crider” Swing are as follows:
- Khristan Solliday, a senior from Mitchell, Ind., tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking in the Murray State portion; second in extemporaneous speaking and second in impromptu speaking in the Alumni portion.
- Lindsey White, a sophomore from St. Paul, Minn., tournament champion in dramatic interpretation, second in duo interpretation (with John Reynolds) and fifth in after-dinner speaking in the Alumni portion; third in after-dinner speaking, third in dramatic interpretation and third in duo interpretation (with John Reynolds) in the Murray State portion.
- Wilian Iralzabal, a senior from Union City, Calif., tournament champion in prose interpretation, third in poetry interpretation and fourth in duo interpretation (with Tyler Dailey) in the Alumni portion; second in duo interpretation (with Tyler Dailey) fifth in poetry interpretation and sixth in prose interpretation in the Murray State portion.
- Tyler Dailey, a junior from Blue Springs, Mo., tournament champion in informative speaking, fourth in duo interpretation (with Wilian Iralzabal) and sixth in poetry interpretation in the Alumni portion; second in poetry interpretation and second in duo interpretation (with Wilian Iralzabal) in the Murray State portion.
- Justin Rodriguez, a sophomore from Coos Bay, Ore., tournament champion in persuasive speaking and second in prose interpretation in the Alumni portion.
- Celena Allen, a senior from Hayward, Calif., tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Alex Wozencraft) in the Alumni portion; fourth in after-dinner speaking and fourth in duo interpretation (with Alex Wozencraft) in the Murray State portion.
- Alexander Wozencraft, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Celena Allen) in the Alumni portion; fourth in duo interpretation (with Celena Allen) and sixth in duo interpretation (with Layton Garlington) in the Murray State portion.
- John Reynolds, a sophomore from Harlingen, Texas, second in duo interpretation (with Lindsey White) in the Alumni portion; third in duo interpretation (with Lindsey White) in the Murray State portion.
- Nick Gilyard, a sophomore from Miami Gardens, Fla., second in after-dinner speaking and fourth in prose interpretation in the Alumni portion.
- Emma Wilczynski, a sophomore from Florence, second in communication analysis in the Murray State portion; sixth in communication analysis in the Alumni portion.
- Richard Heyne, a sophomore from Sunrise, Fla., third in persuasive speaking in the Murray State portion; sixth in persuasive speaking in the Alumni portion.
- Layton Garlington, a sophomore from Ruston, La., fourth in persuasive speaking in the Alumni portion; fifth in persuasive speaking and sixth in duo interpretation (with Alex Wozencraft) in the Murray State portion.
- Sarah Brazier, a junior from Wadsworth, Ohio, fourth in informative speaking in the Alumni portion; fifth in informative speaking in the Murray State portion.
- Kristina Medero, a freshman from Davie, Fla., fourth in communication analysis and sixth in prose interpretation in the Alumni portion; sixth in poetry interpretation in the Murray State portion.
- Marshall Covert, a sophomore from St. Paul, Minn., fifth in duo interpretation (with Ray Roberts) in the Alumni portion.
- Ray Roberts, a freshman from Houston, Texas, fifth in duo interpretation (with Marshall Covert) and sixth in after-dinner speaking in the Alumni portion.
- Tiffany McLarty, a freshman from Bronx, N.Y., fifth in informative speaking in the Alumni portion; sixth in dramatic interpretation in the Murray State portion.
